The Fire Marshal is responsible for investigating the cause of fires, conducting fire inspections and conducting fire prevention activities throughout the city.

Education is the key to preventing fires and the Fire Marshal provides fire prevention classes for adults and children. To schedule a fire prevention class, contact the Fire Marshal office via email or phone.

Burn Permits
A burn permit must be obtained for any outside burning and the burn is limited to natural vegetation only. The burn pile must be smaller than a ten foot square and must be at least fifty feet from any structure or power lines. In addition, someone must be present at all times to attend to the fire until it is completey burned out or extinguished. There must also be a method to extinguish the fire such as a water hose or fire extinguisher. Burn permits may be obtained by calling the Fire Marshal at 256-891-8230.
