About Us
The City Clerk Department issues various licenses and permits, maintains resolutions and ordinances, handles records requests, and coordinates municipal elections.
- Prepare Council meeting agenda and minutes
- Schedule all legal advertising for the city
- Process:
- Alcohol license applications
- Business license applications
- Special event applications
- Yard sale permits
- Maintain city board and committee appointments and terms
- Conduct all municipal elections
- Prepare resolutions for council adoption
- Maintain and update municipal resolutions and ordinances
- Provide general administrative and clerical assistance to the Council
Our Mission
The mission of the Office of the City Clerk:
- To maintain and strengthen five basic structures of local democracy: elections, public records, City Council proceedings, licensing, and the dissemination of public information.

City ClerkPhone: (256) 891-8200Dawn Smith is the wife of retired Albertville Police Chief Jamie Smith and a lifelong resident of our community. A graduate of Albertville High School, Dawn went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Management from Jacksonville State University in 1992 and later returned to JSU to complete her MBA in 2005. Most recently, she earned her Doctorate in Public Administration from Liberty University.Professionally, Dawn has spent the last five years as Chief Financial Officer for the Guntersville Electric Board. Prior to that, she devoted over 20 years to Mitchell Grocery Corp., where she last served as Director of Retail Accounting. She has also shared her expertise as an adjunct instructor at Snead State.When she’s not working, Dawn enjoys camping and following the Alabama Bass Trail with Jamie. They are the proud parents of Katelyn Adams, a nurse with Marshall Medical Centers, and son-in-law Jabin Adams, a combat medic with the National Guard and firefighter with Boaz Fire Department.
