Councilman Ben McGowan has proudly served the City of Albertville for 13 years, currently in the role of Council President Pro-Tem, bringing a strong focus on economic development, airport growth, and strategic planning. A retired U.S. Department of the Army professional, Ben holds Level 3 certifications in acquisition and sustainment logistics, as well as budget preparation for Army aviation and missile systems.
As a Council Member, he serves as liaison to several key boards, including the Albertville Regional Airport Board of Directors, the Albertville Planning Commission, and the Albertville Commercial Development Authority. He is also an active member of the City Council Finance Committee, helping to guide the city’s fiscal priorities.
Ben played a pivotal role in the planning, development, and execution of Albertville’s beloved Main Street Music Festival, a decade-long tradition that brought the community together each year through 2020. He is also a former Associate Director of Youth Bowling Association in Huntsville, AL.
Ben and his wife, Jean, have been married for 43 years and are members of First Methodist Church of Albertville. They share four children—three daughters and one son—along with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ben enjoys studying and flying drones, home improvement projects, and taking pride in his beautifully maintained lawn in his free time.
